A suspected Russian-speaking attacker used hundreds of AI agents built on OpenAI's Codex harness and a DeepSeek model to exploit a PaperCut print-server flaw, breaching 395 organizations in 48 countries. According to a report from the cybersecurity company GreyNoise, AI agents hacked hundreds of organizations in a few hours, sometimes without even following the instructions of their human operator. PaperCut, this is the target the attackers focused on.
Several hundred IA agents participated in a global offensive against PaperCut, during which at least 11 organizations were compromised in just a few seconds. In total, researchers identified 395 victims in 48 countries.
