- This week, an avalanche near Castle Peak in Nevada County, California, killed at least eight people, adding to February resort fatalities, including two at Northstar on Feb. 15 and Feb. 6.
- Authorities say the cause and manner of death remain under investigation and the incidents are part of an active probe; the sheriff's office said identities will be released after next of kin are notified.
- California authorities are investigating the guiding company that led the backcountry trip as six of the 15 skiers survived, while search teams located eight bodies and a ninth is presumed dead.
