Shanghai Electric Contributes to World-record Biomethanol Bunkering Operation
The 8,000-ton operation marked the largest single biomethanol bunkering on record and showed the Taonan project can support stable large-scale deliveries.
On August 17, Shanghai Electric Company, Shanghai International Port Group, and CMA CGM Group completed an 8,000-metric-ton biomethanol bunkering operation at Shanghai Yangshan Port, the largest single operation on record.
Behind the bunkering success lies an interprovincial supply chain establishing a north-to-south shipment route: production at the Taonan project in Jilin, transit through Dalian Port, and final delivery at Shanghai Port.
Launched on June 30 by Shanghai, Jilin, and Liaoning, the green fuel transportation corridor relies on the Taonan project, which draws on local wind and solar resources.
Providing essential support for major green-fuel shipping hubs, the operation meets bunkering requirements for Shanghai's International Shipping Center and advances China's national dual-carbon goals.
Shanghai Electric commemorated the milestone at a ceremony titled "Green Fueled Globe, Lead the Future," while the company continues intensifying research into integrated green fuel solutions for maritime and aviation sectors.
