Shah inaugurates fast track immigration facility at 5 airports - The Statesman

The programme, launched in 2024, now operates at 13 airports, benefiting 265,000 travellers who use biometric e-gates to reduce immigration clearance to 30 seconds, officials said.

  • On September 11, 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a new initiative called the Trusted Traveller Programme for expedited immigration clearance at five Indian airports, connecting via video conference from New Delhi.
  • This programme, first launched in Delhi in 2024 and expanded to seven airports thereafter, aims to expedite immigration clearance for Indian citizens and OCI cardholders through pre-registration and biometric verification.
  • Passengers registered on the online portal must provide biometrics at designated airports or FRROs to join a White List enabling automatic e-gate clearance that grants immigration in 30 seconds.
  • So far, approximately 300,000 travellers have registered, and 265,000 have used the system, which eliminates manual checks and queues, with users giving positive feedback on the increased convenience and security.
  • The programme is expected to be implemented at 21 major airports, enhancing seamless travel while aligning with government goals to maximize user benefits through technology and national security improvements.
