Severe Storms Continue to Produce Heavy Rain, Lightning and Flooding Across Parts of US
More than 1,100 severe-weather reports were logged as forecasters warned of another heavy-rain event Friday evening.
- A severe storm system pummeled the Midwest with hail, tornadoes, and flooding, causing at least one death after a man was struck by lightning in Waukesha, Wisconsin, on Wednesday.
- The National Weather Service received more than 1,100 reports of large hail, winds above 60 mph, and tornadoes from Monday through Wednesday, prompting Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers to declare a state of emergency earlier this week.
- In Portage, Wisconsin, the Wisconsin River is forecast to reach a record 20.7-foot level Friday morning, while officials in Bellaire, Michigan, are releasing partially treated waste after systems were overwhelmed.
- Residents living below the Croton Dam in Newaygo County, Michigan, were ordered to evacuate, and city officials told businesses Monday to prepare a "go bag" and "be ready to act" due to flood threats.
- Meteorologists expect another severe, heavy rain event Friday evening before the storm system moves off the United States east coast in three to four days, according to the Storm Prediction Center.
