‘50 Bones’: Kids Discover Skull, Human Remains in Upstate Creek, Officials Say

On Sunday, children playing near a creek in the Homeland Park area of Anderson County, South Carolina, discovered human skeletal remains that were reported to authorities after the children's mother contacted The Anderson County Sheriff's Office.
The Anderson County Coroner confirmed the skull was human after examining it at the scene, prompting Detectives and forensic investigators to arrive and collect evidence from the site.
Further digging revealed about 45 to 50 other human bones, and the Anderson County Coroner explained the remains look "pretty weathered" and likely have been there for over 10 years.
An anthropologist from Clemson will join the investigation on Monday to assist officials, though authorities stated they cannot yet determine if the death resulted from foul play.
Children playing near the water discovered other bones earlier in the day but initially believed the remains were deer bones, delaying the report to authorities.
