Historic Rugby Quadruple-Header Set for Sydney, Capped by Wallabies Against All Blacks
Australia’s men’s and women’s sevens teams join the Bledisloe Cup card for the first time, creating four international matches in one day.
Rugby Australia announced Wednesday a Bledisloe Quadruple-Header on October 18 at Accor Stadium featuring four international matches. Rugby Australia chief executive Phil Waugh confirmed, "This is an historic moment for Australian rugby, with all four of our teams in gold competing on the same pitch, on the same day."
With the Wallabies-All Blacks Bledisloe Cup test set for October 17, organizers built upon the existing fixture by adding the Wallaroos' previously planned WXV Global Series clash against Scotland as a support match.
Australia's men's sevens team will face Olympic gold medallists Fiji at 2:05pm, while the world champion women's squad takes on two-time defending champion New Zealand at 2:25pm, with the Wallabies meeting the All Blacks at 3:45pm.
Waugh noted the day showcases elite male and female players across XVs and Sevens formats against famous international rivals. International partners including New Zealand Rugby, Fiji Rugby Union and Scottish Rugby made the unprecedented day possible.
Accor Stadium, set to host next year's World Cup final, will stage this unprecedented rugby showcase. All four Australian teams competing on the same pitch on the same day marks a historic scheduling first.
