Seven Reportedly Killed, Farmlands Destroyed In Fresh Plateau Attacks
The Berom Youth Moulders Association said the attacks killed miners and villagers and destroyed crops, raising fears over food security and renewed violence.
- At least seven people have been killed in separate attacks across Plateau State since September 23, while more than 20 hectares of farmland were destroyed, according to the Berom Youth Moulders Association .
- These incidents occurred despite a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew imposed in Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, and Mangu Local Government Areas, prompting the BYM to question the effectiveness of current security measures.
- On Saturday, gunmen killed five miners in Marit, while soldiers rescued the district head of Fursum in Jos East Local Government Area after youths attacked his residence and set his vehicle ablaze.
- The BYM stated that "every life lost leaves a family devastated," warning that destroyed farmlands threaten food security and push affected families closer to hunger and poverty.
- Security agencies must dismantle criminal networks and restore public confidence, the BYM urged, calling on the National Assembly and National Human Rights Commission to monitor the situation and ensure accountability.
