4 Arrested After 7 Hurt in Fourth of July Shooting on Hilton Head Island
Investigators say an argument between two groups escalated into gunfire, and multiple firearms were recovered as the investigation continues.
On Saturday, July 4, 2026, a shooting at Coligny Beach in Hilton Head Island injured seven people, prompting an immediate response from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office .
Investigators determined the shooting originated from a fight between two groups on the public beach, leading to an altercation where shots were fired and multiple firearms were recovered.
Authorities arrested Jayden Hawes, 18, Marcello Royal, 17, Quazeir Davis, 17, and Christopher Capers, 17. Hawes, Royal, and Davis face attempted murder and weapons charges; Capers was charged with accessory after the fact.
Seven victims sustained non-fatal gunshot wounds and received treatment at area hospitals. Mayor Alan Perry stated the safety of residents and visitors remains his "highest priority."
Officials are enhancing the public safety camera system at Coligny Beach using Flock Safety technology to strengthen law enforcement capabilities. BCSO continues the active investigation with further charges pending.
