Settlements in Huelva and Almería: a life without basic rights
It is estimated that 7,000 people live in informal temporary settlements in Almeria and about 5,000 in Huelva today. As explained by the Association for Human Rights of Andalusia (Apdha), settlements emerged in the early 1980s, hand in hand with intensive agriculture in southern Spain, as temporary solutions to accommodation in shelters for agricultural workers during crop collection campaigns.
