On January 27th, the Food Safety Department of the Ministry of Health issued an urgent warning regarding several infant formula products suspected of being contaminated with cereulide, a toxin produced by the bacterium Bacillus cereus, which can seriously affect children's health.
Several batches of infant milk marketed in France and internationally, notably by Nestlé, Danone and Lactalis, have recently been recalled because of the potential presence of cereulide, a toxin produced by certain bacteria. But what exactly is cereulide?
