The Ministry of Health announced Wednesday the completion of an internal public audit that targeted the work of the Romanian National Agency for Medicine and Medical Devices, as well as the structures within the Ministry with responsibilities in the field of medicines. The checks showed that the system used to track stocks and consumption is not sufficiently automated, and the risk of deficits can be identified late.
The Ministry of Health has found numerous problems in the system by which the state pursues whether there are enough medicines in the country and whether there are risks of certain treatments missing. The audit done at the National Medicines Agency and in the Ministry's structures shows that the electronic system used now cannot automatically identify and signal, in real time, all problems related to stocks and consumption.

The audit of the Ministry of Health identified problems in the authorisation and monitoring of medicinal products, from late-verified reports and differences in stocks to incomplete information on drug shortages and insufficient controls.
