While auto and IT stocks dragged markets down, value buying in banking stocks helped the market recover from its intraday lows. The 30-share BSE Sensex closed 373.93 points or 0.49 per cent lower at 76,570.35. During the day, the benchmark hit a high of 76,570.35 and a low of 76,135.72, gyrating 434.63 points. Closing Bell: Nifty around 23,900, Sensex slips 374 pts; auto, IT worst hit
Biggest Nifty losers were Eicher Motors, Wipro, Bajaj Auto, Asia Paints, M&M, while gainers included Coal India, Adani Ports, Bajaj Finserv, Adani Enterprises and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles. Except Energy and Oil & Gas, all other sectoral indices ended in the red with Auto, Information Technology, Media down 1.2-1.8 percent. The Nifty midcap index fell 0.5 percent and smallcap index shed 0.4 percent.
