DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — The Olympic flame was welcomed by music and dancing in Senegal 's capital on Saturday, as a march by 100 women marked the countdown to the first Olympic sporting event held in Africa.
On Thursday in Athens and arriving on the same day in Senegal in complete discretion, the torch was presented on Saturday to the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, in the presence of the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Kirsty Coventry, and a few spectators in the colours of Senegal, before a flame presentation ceremony on the coast of Dakar.
