Sen. Lindsey Graham says it is not the job of the U.S. to determine Iran's next leader
Following strikes killing Iran's leader, Graham said the U.S. won't pick Iran's next leader or send troops, focusing on ending state-sponsored terrorism.
- During an interview on NBC's Meet the Press, Lindsey Graham said there will be no American boots on the ground after Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in a series of strikes.
- Graham said the U.S. role is to prevent Iran from again being the largest state sponsor of terrorism and to help the people of Iran reconstruct a new government without selecting their leaders.
- U.S. Central Command reported three U.S. service members killed and five wounded, and Graham said the operation was `one of the most consequential military operations in modern history`.
- Several Democrats, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer , called for the proposed congressional vote while Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., warned `Hope is not a strategy` and Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., disputed Kelly's view.
- Graham rejected the `Pottery Barn rule` and said the U.S. should not occupy Iran after strikes involving over 100 fighter jets aiming to block Hezbollah, the Houthis and Hamas.
