- The investigation shows the semitrailer struck the rear of a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan, and after impact the Dodge van became engulfed in flames, sparking a six-vehicle chain reaction in Commerce, Jackson County.
- The van, operated by Furkids Animal Rescue and Shelters, was carrying 37 cats to Vermont; cages were crushed, two cats remain missing and one is in critical care, CEO Samantha Shelton said.
- Authorities charged Kane Aaron Hammock with multiple counts, and he was booked into the Jackson County Detention Center under a $93,000 bond, as investigations continue.
- The Jackson County Coroner's Office said the victims were all from the same family and ranged in age from 2 to 4, with an eighth body later discovered and pregnancy pending autopsy confirmation.
