Security Screening Mostly ‘Unimpeachable’ but ‘There Are Gaps’: Anandasangaree
Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree confirmed that a Canadian charged with espionage in Belgium received a security clearance from Global Affairs Canada.
Opposition members questioned how the suspect obtained clearance despite a 2023 fraud conviction.
Anandasangaree acknowledged gaps in Canada’s security-screening process and said the Canadian Security Intelligence Service and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police had recommended reforms.
Anandasangaree said he was unsure whether the suspect still held the clearance.
