USDA Launches New Office to Support US Seafood Industry
The new office will help fishermen, processors and aquaculture businesses find federal aid and support, officials said.
- The USDA opened a new Office of Seafood to connect producers with federal support, aiming to simplify access to government resources for the American seafood industry.
- This initiative follows President Donald Trump's executive order one year ago, which prioritized an "America First Seafood Strategy" to reverse the trend where about 80% of seafood consumed in the United States is imported.
- Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins stated the Office will coordinate with the Department of Commerce "to ensure fishermen are integrated into USDA programs" and "to revitalize the American seafood industry."
