Secretary of State Steve Simon Promotes Business Filing Services During St. Cloud Visit
The first Secretary of State pop-up event helped business owners complete registrations, renewals and amendments without traveling to St. Paul.
- On Wednesday, Sept. 23, Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon brought his office's services to the Stearns County Courthouse in St. Cloud, allowing business owners to complete state filings in person without traveling to St. Paul.
- Simon selected St. Cloud for the inaugural pop-up event to improve accessibility for business owners. The city hosts 7,884 registered businesses, with about 90% classified as small businesses having five or fewer employees.
- Community partners, including the Small Business Development Center at St. Cloud State University , provided resources during the event. Between 15 and 20 people visited during the first hour seeking help with registrations and renewals.
- Chris Lepkowski, interim dean of SCSU's College of Business, Engineering and Technology, praised the initiative. "It was a fantastic opportunity to bring our business community together, and we were excited for the opportunity to be a part of it," Lepkowski said.
- Following the test run, the Secretary of State's office plans to fine-tune the process for future events. Simon indicated interest in hosting similar pop-ups in Duluth, Rochester, and Moorehead to expand regional access.
