While there was only one left, Vénissieux was that one. Since the successive losses of Vaulx-en-Velin, Pierre-Bénite, Givors and Grigny, the last communist bastion of the Lyon agglomeration held good. Until Sunday, March 22nd. The second round of municipal elections saw the unsubmissive candidate, MP Idir Boumertit, come in the lead with 4020 votes, or 34.11 per cent of the votes.
In Vénissiles, the Insoumis won the town hall under the leadership of Idir Boumertit, slightly ahead of the outgoing editor Michèle Picard. Without an alliance, LFI confirmed its national breakthrough by imposing in a city marked by strong tensions.
