Second Person Arrested After Shooting Near Virginia State University Dorms Injured 5

Police say five people were wounded and a 21-year-old remains in critical condition after the campus shooting.

  • On Saturday, a shooting near Virginia State University's Quad Annexes left five people injured, including one student. Police arrested 19-year-old Camron Harris, found hiding in a dormitory closet.
  • Following the shooting, VSU student Ja'niah Johnson, 19, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, turned herself in on Tuesday facing charges of obstruction and accessory after the fact. Police allege Johnson helped Harris hide in her dormitory closet.
  • Among the five wounded victims, ranging in age from 17 to 23, were four non-students and one student. A 21-year-old man remains in critical condition while one student was released from the hospital.
  • Facing eight felony charges including malicious wounding and firearm use, Harris remains in jail without bond. Johnson was released on her own recognizance after appearing before a magistrate.
  • Chesterfield County Police report the investigation remains ongoing with no motive yet established. The university, which has about 5,700 students, previously lifted the campus lockdown, citing no immediate threat.
