Manitoba shuts down landfill search site, crews still looking for victim at another
Premier Wab Kinew said the $18.4-million Prairie Green search met its goal as crews shift to Brady Road for the remaining missing victim.
On Thursday, the Manitoba government officially decommissioned the Prairie Green Landfill search site following the conclusion of operations that recovered remains of murder victims Morgan Harris and Marcedes Myran.
Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew stated the final search cost reached $18.4 million, one-tenth of the $184 million initially estimated by the previous provincial government.
Kinew noted the operation respected workers' health and safety standards throughout the search, which was managed by Waste Connections of Canada.
Specialized equipment and personnel are shifting to Winnipeg's Brady Road Landfill to continue searching for remains of Ashlee Shingoose, with $21.6 million allocated to the operation.
Kinew emphasized the government has set a precedent, affirming the province will put in the effort to look for missing individuals so cases are not treated as lost causes.
