NASA to Fly Apollo, Aviation Artifacts on Artemis II
Artemis II carries over 2,300 artifacts aboard the Orion spacecraft to honor aviation and space milestones during a 10-day mission with a lunar flyby.
- On Wednesday , NASA revealed the Artemis II Official Flight Kit, a duffel-bag pouch with more than 2,300 items flying aboard the Orion spacecraft Integrity during the 10-day mission for four crew members.
- The kit honors lunar and space exploration, aviation and American history, and recognizes generations of innovators behind these achievements.
- Inside the OFK are numerous flags, including hundreds of US and `America 250` flags for post-flight presentation, plus two special US flags—one on its third spaceflight and one flying first time.
- Artemis II may launch as soon as early February and will carry three NASA astronauts and a Canadian Space Agency mission specialist on a 10-day flight including a Moon flyby with far side views.
- Jared Isaacman, NASA's administrator, said the mission unites early aviation, human spaceflight milestones and symbols of future exploration during America 250.
