Search for 11-year-old boy who went missing after entering river
Specialist teams, a police helicopter and drones are searching for the boy as officers ask the public to stay away.
Emergency services were called to Ferry Boat Lane in Mexborough at about 20:00 BST on Saturday after an 11-year-old boy was last seen entering the River Don and did not emerge from the water.
Doncaster Response Team Inspector Neil Pryce said witnesses and items left on the riverbank indicated where the boy entered the River Don, helping crews establish the search focus area.
The rescue effort involves South Yorkshire Police, National Police Air Service, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service using underwater search teams, helicopters, and drones.
South Yorkshire Police requested that members of the public stay away from the area for safety and refrain from spectating or filming to preserve the boy's family dignity.
The boy's family is being supported by specially trained officers while the specialist search operation remains ongoing. "We are doing everything we can to find this young man," Pryce said.
