Bo Nix’s Ankle Recovery Hits a Familiar 'Second Step' in the Broncos’ Offseason Plan
Payton said the Broncos will ease Nix back after a second ankle operation, with the quarterback expected to be full speed by training camp.
On Saturday, Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton said there is a "good chance" quarterback Nix will participate in the mandatory minicamp scheduled for June 16-18. Payton expressed optimism about Nix's recovery trajectory.
Nix underwent a follow-up procedure last month on his right ankle, three months after initially fracturing it during the AFC Divisional Round win over Buffalo. Payton noted the second operation was not a surprise.
Coaches and training staff will be "smart" with their third-year quarterback, prioritizing his health over early participation. Payton stated he and Nix have "been on the same page" regarding recovery.
Until Nix returns, backup Jarrett Stidham and Sam Ehlinger will split snaps at quarterback during the offseason program. Both players manage responsibilities while the starter continues limited rehabilitation.
General manager George Paton signed a five-year contract extension earlier this week, keeping him in Denver through 2030. The team expects Nix to be fully healthy for training camp in late July.
