Reports: Jets Trading WR Irvin Charles to Seahawks
Seattle adds a special-teams gunner with 90.3 and 88.6 Pro Football Focus grades after losing Dareke Young in free agency.
On Wednesday, the Seattle Seahawks acquired wide receiver and special teams standout Irv Charles from the New York Jets for a conditional seventh-round draft pick, one day after beginning OTAs.
After losing receiver Dareke Young to the Raiders in free agency, the Seahawks addressed the gunner position, a priority for General Manager John Schneider given his emphasis on special teams excellence.
The 6-foot-4, 219-pound Charles earned Pro Football Focus grades of 90.3 in 2023 and 88.6 in 2024 while playing 450 special teams snaps, recording seven tackles each season before tearing his ACL in Week 14.
Charles will compete for a 53-man roster spot during training camp, though the conditional pick likely hinges on whether he makes the team and plays in games amid competition from Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp, and Rashid Shaheed.
Transitioning from a 3-14 Jets team to the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks, Charles now has an opportunity to establish himself on special teams after missing the entire 2025 season recovering from his ACL injury.
