Seahawks Make Final Sam Darnold Decision Ahead of Cardinals Game
Seattle is sticking with Drew Lock after Sam Darnold’s glute injury, and Darnold is expected to miss Week 2, the team said.
The Seattle Seahawks have officially ruled out quarterback Sam Darnold for Sunday's Week 2 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, with backup Drew Lock set to start for the reigning Super Bowl champions.
Darnold suffered a "very unique soft-tissue" injury to his right glute during the first series of the season opener against the New England Patriots, though the team confirmed his hip joint remains unaffected.
Stepping in for the injured starter, Lock completed 16 of 22 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, helping secure a 13-10 victory against New England last week.
Head coach Mike Macdonald announced the team does not anticipate placing Darnold on injured reserve or signing another quarterback, stating they will "re-evaluate every day and re-evaluate every week" the situation.
While the timeline for his return remains uncertain, the injury is not considered long-term; following Sunday's game, the team will visit the Washington Commanders in Week 3, providing Darnold extended recovery time.
