Seahawks Expected to Sign Veteran RB Joe Mixon

Seattle reversed course after Mixon’s physical, leaving the veteran free agent on the market as the team seeks backfield depth.

  • On Tuesday, the Seattle Seahawks decided against signing veteran running back Joe Mixon after he failed his physical examination. The two-time Pro Bowler will remain a free agent.
  • Seattle sought backfield depth after placing first-round rookie Jadarian Price on injured reserve with a chest injury, while Zach Charbonnet continues recovering from an ACL tear suffered during the playoffs. Both injuries created urgent need for running back help.
  • NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the team declined the signing citing a degenerative foot issue that may prevent Mixon from playing again. Mixon missed the entire 2025 season after the Houston Texans released him in March.
  • Following the failed Mixon deal, the Seahawks signed running back Robert Henry Jr. from the Washington Commanders' practice squad to their active roster. Henry will compete for carries behind Emanuel Wilson and George Holani.
  • The Seahawks face an upcoming home matchup against the San Francisco 49ers while Price remains sidelined for at least four games and Zach Charbonnet continues working toward his return. Seattle's backfield depth will be tested immediately.
