Seagate’s Massive, 30TB, $600 Hard Drives Are Now Available for Anyone to Buy

GLOBAL, JUL 15 – Seagate's 30TB HAMR drives support scalable, energy-efficient storage for AI and edge computing with over one million Mozaic drives shipped, meeting rising global demand, IDC says.

  • On July 15, 2025, Seagate Technology Holdings plc announced global channel availability of up to 30TB Exos M and IronWolf Pro hard drives in Fremont, Calif.
  • Driven by data sovereignty regulations and data center disaggregation, organizations are investing in on-premises and hybrid infrastructures, and Seagate emphasized that the unprecedented surge in AI infrastructure investment will dramatically increase demand for high-capacity storage solutions.
  • Featuring a SATA 6 Gbps interface with 6.9W average power consumption, the drives deliver around 277 MB/s sequential throughput on outer tracks and utilize HAMR technology with laser heating for precise data writing.
  • They represent the first HAMR-based HDDs in channel and retail markets, volume shipments are underway with broader distribution expected in the second half of 2025, and QNAP along with UGREEN confirmed deployment in AI-optimized NAS systems.
  • Looking ahead, a roadmap featuring 36TB samples with targets of 40TB in 2026, 50TB by 2028 and 100TB by 2030 highlights Seagate’s ambition, and the company expects HAMR to underpin long-term demand for AI and machine learning storage.
