Scrap Management Industries Accelerates Expansion with Dual Recycling Center Acquisitions in Kansas

Scrap Management Industries acquired two established recycling centers in Lawrence and Ottawa, Kansas, on June 11, 2025.
SMI pursued this acquisition to strengthen its regional recycling services and align with its long-term growth and sustainability strategy.
The 20-year-old facilities at 1006 E. 11th St. in Lawrence and 2202 East Wilson St. in Ottawa will serve as feeder yards for SMI’s Kansas City operation.
SMI President and CEO Jerrit Burgess emphasized that the acquisition strengthens the company’s dedication to delivering eco-friendly, effective, and accountable recycling services.
This expansion enhances SMI’s capacity to serve industrial, small business, and individual recyclers while promoting economic growth and environmental sustainability in the region.
