'Migration discussion threatens to become a debate of the deaf', says the SCP in a new study

If politicians make almost impossible promises about limiting migration, more people are at risk of losing confidence in politics, the Social and Cultural Planning Office outlines. "Especially among the group that already has a low opinion of the government."

A large group of Dutch people have a pragmatic, nuanced view of migration. This middle group should receive more attention in the social and political debate, says the Social and Cultural Planning Office. "Dare to ask the fundamental question: what kind of migration country do we want to become?"

“Dissatisfaction about migration has found more of an outlet than before,” concludes the SCP. “People not only disagree with each other, but also distrust each other.”
