At least 12 people were killed and dozens injured in a terrorist shooting targeting Sydney's Jewish community on Hanukkah, authorities said.
- At approximately 6.47pm, gunfire erupted at Bondi Beach's Archer Park on Sunday, December 14, 2025, and New South Wales Police declared the attack a terrorist incident with at least 12 killed.
- Authorities said the attack targeted Sydney's Jewish community during Hanukkah at the Hanukkah by the Sea event organised by Chabad of Bondi, which drew more than 1,000 people including families and elderly attendees.
- Police identified the shooters as Sajid Akram, 50, and his son Naveed Akram, 24; Sajid was shot dead and Naveed hospitalised under guard. Authorities seized six registered firearms plus additional weapons and improvised explosive devices.
- As of Monday afternoon, police said 33 people remained in hospital, with six critical and 27 serious but stable, while community leaders reported a 12-year-old girl and Rabbi Eli Schlanger among the dead.
- Despite past reforms after Port Arthur, calls grew to tighten licensing and limits on guns as Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will ask cabinet to consider reforms and NSW Premier Chris Minns may recall parliament soon.
