School avoids heatwave closure by teaching near a stream

Grasmere Primary School in Cumbria avoided closing during a heatwave by teaching its 91 pupils near a local stream.
The school conducted outdoor lessons with every year group in the water while the UK broke record June temperatures twice this week.
Principal Jo Goode observed that children's alertness improved as soon as they entered the water.
Older pupils adapted lessons by collecting math data, such as measuring the stream's width and the drop from a bridge, making learning more hands-on.
