Three people over the age of 80 have died after contracting Legionnaires' disease in the Savoie region of France, near the Swiss border.
Investigations are under way to determine the origin of the contamination, announces ARS Tuesday, August 18. This infectious disease that affects the lung is caused by a bacteria that proliferates in fresh water.
The Regional Health Agency is continuing its analyses to determine the origin of the contamination. The infectious disease is fatal in about 10% of cases.
On Tuesday, the health authorities indicated that they were continuing their investigations around Chambéry, where most of the contamination is concentrated. Of the three deaths, two are linked to a private water network.
A third person over 80 years of age died from legionellosis in Savoie, where 46 cases have been recorded since the beginning of June.
