Indian Duo Triumphs at Singapore Badminton Open

The Indians ended a two-year title drought and became the first from their country to win the Singapore Open doubles crown.

  • Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won the Singapore Open men's doubles title on Sunday, defeating Indonesia's Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri to become the first Indians to claim the BWF Super 750 tournament trophy.
  • The Indians secured their first title in two years, ending a drought that saw them finish as runners-up in four finals since their last trophy at the Thailand Open in 2024. This victory followed their semifinal win over reigning world champions Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae of South Korea.
  • After losing the opening game 18-21, Satwik and Chirag rallied to win 21-17 and 21-16 in one hour and 13 minutes. They overcame a 1-2 head-to-head record against the Indonesian pair, having previously lost to them in the Malaysia Open quarterfinals in January.
  • Both players collapsed on court in celebration, with Satwik performing a baby-themed gesture for his family while Chirag let out a roar. The duo told the crowd, "I think it's one of the best stadiums to play in."
  • This win marks the pair's ninth career World Tour crown and third Super 750 title, cementing their status as reigning The Asian Games and Commonwealth Games champions. The Indians celebrated their long-awaited return to the podium's top step with an on-court dance.
