Saskatchewan Politician Says He Paid Nearly $30K for Private Jets; NDP Wants Answers
Conflict commissioner said Kevin Weedmark paid his own money, while the NDP says a similar jet quote topped $20,000 and wants receipts.
Saskatchewan Party MLA Kevin Weedmark released a letter Tuesday from provincial Conflict of Interest Commissioner Maurice Herauf, who ruled Weedmark did not violate the Conflict of Interest Act regarding his private jet flights.
Weedmark paid close to $30,000 for two private jet trips, including an August 2025 flight to Saskatoon costing $8,271 and an August 2026 journey for government functions costing $20,106.
In a Sept. 18 letter, Herauf stated that because Weedmark used personal funds, "there is absolutely no financial benefit that can be attributed to your decision to fly to functions on either date."
Opposition NDP health critic Meara Conway demanded receipts, questioning if Weedmark paid commercial value; the NDP obtained a quote above $20,000 for similar aircraft.
Conway argued, "The rules exist to make sure that decisions are being made in the public interest," while Weedmark noted the health minister's office requested his attendance at both events.
