The sale includes five manufacturing facilities and brands such as Cathedral City and Wensleydale, while Saputo says the business generated $1.2 billion in revenue.
- On Friday, Montreal-based Saputo Inc. agreed to sell its United Kingdom dairy division to Lactalis for nearly $1.86 billion, including five manufacturing facilities and brands such as Cathedral City and Country Life.
- Saputo president and chief executive Carl Colizza stated the move aims to provide financial flexibility and sharpen the company's focus on platforms where it competes from a position of strength.
- The United Kingdom operations generated around $1.2 billion in revenue over the past four quarters, representing 7 per cent of total revenues, with divested brands including Wensleydale, Davidstow, and Clover.
- Expected to close by the end of the first quarter of 2027, the deal is subject to regulatory approvals and follows an earlier sale of an 80-per-cent stake in the Argentina division to Gloria Foods.
- These divestments reflect Saputo's ongoing corporate strategy to improve competitive positioning as the company restructures its international footprint to prioritize core markets within the global dairy sector.
