Santa's reindeer cleared for flight after annual veterinary exam
Santa’s nine reindeer passed extensive health checks including infectious disease screenings and vaccination verification, ensuring safety for their global Christmas Eve journey, AVMA said.
- Dec. 15, 2025: The American Veterinary Medical Association announced Santa's nine reindeer are officially cleared for their Christmas Eve journey after full health exams.
- To protect animal and public health, vets screened for brucellosis, tuberculosis, chronic wasting disease, and verified vaccinations plus the North Pole Certificate of Animal Export.
- All nine reindeer underwent full-body exams, including x-rays, blood tests, and inspections of antlers, hooves, fur, and vital signs, by Dr. Bailey and Mossor, documented in video ID 1145773928.
- As a result, AVMA members and veterinary clinics can volunteer as Santa's emergency veterinary staff and join the E.L.V.E.S. network by downloading the official badge.
- They will return on Christmas Eve for a final check, recommended leaving graham cracker cookies for energy, and noted the AVMA highlights veterinarians' global public-health role.
