Samsung's new AirTag rival works with more than just Galaxy phones
The tracker adds Bluetooth 6.0, longer-range location finding and 1.5 years of battery life, Samsung says.
- Samsung announced the Galaxy SmartTag 3 today, introducing cross-platform support for Android and Apple devices alongside a design that is 35 percent more compact and 33 percent lighter than its predecessor.
- The tracker will be available in black and white starting in "early November," priced at $30 for a single unit and $100 for a four-pack, matching Apple's AirTag in the current competitive market.
- Featuring Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding, the device offers distance guidance up to 196 feet and extended battery life lasting up to 550 days in "normal" mode or 790 days in "power saving" mode.
- Samsung added pet activity monitoring and new Place Notification alerts that enable users to receive warnings when the tracker enters or leaves a predefined geofenced area.
- Users benefit from over 900 million Galaxies acting as finding nodes via the Galaxy Find Network, though Android-only users access the full feature set while Apple device users miss capabilities like Compass View.
