(LEAD) Samsung Electronics Posts Record Operating Profit in Q4 Amid AI Boom

Samsung's Q4 operating profit rose 153% year-on-year to 20.1 trillion won, driven by strong sales of AI-focused high-bandwidth memory and DRAM chips.

  • Samsung Electronics Co. reported earlier this month a record fourth‑quarter revenue of 93.8 trillion won and an operating profit of 20.07 trillion won for the quarter to December 2025, Yonhap said.
  • Amid the AI boom, sales for the semiconductor division rose 33 percent quarter-on-quarter, while the device solutions division posted a record 16.4 trillion won profit on strong HBM and DRAM sales.
  • Samsung said Thursday `AI and server demand to continue increasing, leading to more opportunities for structural growth`, and pledged a $33.2 billion investment in chip production facilities with HBM4 output starting in February, targeting American chip giant Nvidia as a customer.
  • Market reaction was immediate as Samsung shares surged about 130 percent amid a tech rally, while SK hynix posted record profits, with Nvidia reportedly allocating 70% of its HBM4 demand to SK hynix.
  • Over the year, Samsung's results beat expectations with annual revenue 333.6 trillion won and net profit 19.64 trillion won, while analysts' estimate was 18.6 trillion won; industry analysts warned that AI chip focus may raise consumer prices as SK hynix plans a $10 billion US investment.
