Samsung appears to be preparing a major expansion of its wearable lineup, with references to the Galaxy Watch 9, Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and a new Galaxy Able device found inside the company’s Galaxy Wearable app. The Galaxy Able is shaping up as the most interesting product of the three, with reports suggesting it will be Samsung’s first clip-on style wireless earbud. Earlier references pointed to the name Galaxy Buds Able, but the latest app code suggests Samsung may drop the ‘Buds’ branding entirely. That would mark a notable shift for Samsung’s audio strategy, as the company looks to move beyond traditional in-ear earbuds and take on open-ear products such as Sony’s LinkBuds Clip. The Galaxy Able is tipped to use bone conduction technology, although it remains unclear whether that will be used for audio playback or voice enhancement during calls. Open-ear and clip-on designs are increasingly being pitched at runners, cyclists and office workers who want to hear music or calls while remaining aware of their surroundings. The design could also give Samsung a new way to challenge Apple’s AirPods dominance by offering Galaxy users a second pair of earphones better suited to all-day wear, exercise and situations where noise cancellation is not ideal. The Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 were also spotted in the app. Samsung’s next-generation smartwatches had already surfaced in leaks, with the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 tipped to feature new band designs, fresh watch faces and software features tied to One UI 9 Watch, based on Wear OS 7. The Galaxy Watch9 is expected to adopt a boxier design, while the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is tipped to feature thinner bezels, revised side buttons and a less prominent orange quick button. Both are expected to retain designs similar to their predecessors, though the Ultra model is tipped to gain a brighter OLED display and upgraded performance. Samsung is expected to unveil the new wearables at its next Unpacked event, which will fall on July 23 in Australia.
