China’s YMTC Overtakes Kioxia, Micron in Global NAND Shipments: Counterpoint (MU:NASDAQ)

- Counterpoint data released Wednesday showed China's YMTC reached third place in the global NAND market during the second quarter with a 14% share, behind Samsung and SK hynix.
- Despite shipping gains, YMTC continues to trail Micron and Kioxia in NAND chip revenue, according to research firm Counterpoint.
- Counterpoint Research Director Hwang noted that "YMTC is projected to pull further ahead in 2027 and 2028," adding that a 15% market share is necessary for manufacturers to fund independent capital expenditures.
- Data centers are expected to take half of all available NANDs by the end of 2026, while a Korean manufacturer restarted investment at a Dalian facility after a four-year pause this week.
- In China, YMTC is preparing for a public offering, following the blockbuster debut of DRAM-focused Chinese chipmaker CXMT, which held 7% of the DRAM market in the second quarter.
