- Sam Thompson has withdrawn from today’s charity football event at Old Trafford in Manchester due to a torn calf injury.
- Sam injured his calf while completing a five-day, 261-mile journey carrying last year’s Soccer Aid match ball from the London stadium, Stamford Bridge, to this year’s host ground at Old Trafford.
- He completed part of the journey by running and cycling but fully tore his calf muscle near the final 2 kilometers, and discussions about medically discharging him occurred.
- Sam shared that during the first marathon on day one, he experienced a severe pain near the end, realizing he had badly injured his calf muscle, but he managed to continue with his leg supported.
- Although Sam will not play, he will serve on the management team and participate in the event's coverage while his challenge raised over £1.5 million for UNICEF.
