Netflix Releases Trailer for Brad Bird's Ray Gunn
- Netflix released the first trailer for Ray Gunn, an upcoming neo-noir science fiction mystery directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Brad Bird. The film opens in select theaters with 70mm screenings on December 4, before arriving on Netflix on December 18.
- Developing the project for nearly 30 years, Bird has pursued Ray Gunn since before The Iron Giant. After years of false starts, Skydance Animation revived the film, finally allowing the director to bring his original vision to the screen.
- In the retro-futuristic city of Metropia, private eye Raymond Gunn, voiced by Sam Rockwell, investigates a murder mystery alongside his alien partner Eyera, voiced by Tom Waits. Scarlett Johansson voices pop star Venus Nova, central to the case.
- Aiming for an older audience, Bird declined to pitch the film at Pixar, describing the movie as "Maltese Falcon meets Buck Rogers." He sought a distinct tone from his previous animated works to reach mature viewers.
