Sam Burns Finishes T4 at the Memorial
Burns fell two shots with a penalty and double-bogey after his second punch shot struck the same tree and rolled into the creek.
On Sunday at the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Sam Burns hit the same tree twice on the 11th hole, carding a double bogey that dropped him to five under par.
Storms forced the suspension of Round 3 on Saturday, requiring Burns to return to Muirfield Village Sunday morning to finish the hole.
After his initial tee shot landed in deep rough, Burns struck the same tree twice; his second attempt clipped a branch and landed directly in the creek bisecting the fairway.
Despite the early mishap, Burns rallied to finish with a 71, moving into solo third place at seven under, five shots behind leader J.T. Poston.
The U.S. Ryder Cup team member, ranked 34th in the Official World Golf Rankings, enters the final round with an outside chance for a comeback victory at Muirfield.
