1.7 Million Eggs Recalled in Nine States as Salmonella Outbreak Grows
- In June 2025, the FDA announced a recall of approximately 1.7 million dozen brown cage-free and organic eggs produced by August Egg Company in Hilmar, California, due to concerns over salmonella contamination.
- The recall followed illnesses reported from February 24 to May 17 across nine states where eggs were distributed, with 79 people sickened and 21 hospitalized but no deaths reported.
- Recalled eggs were sold at Walmart and other retailers in California, Arizona, and seven additional states, with sell-by dates ranging from March 4 to June 19, and the cartons bear plant codes P-6562 or CA5330.
- The CDC described salmonella symptoms as diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps typically lasting four to seven days and advised consumers to discard recalled eggs or return them for a refund.
