The United States urged the Lebanese Government, on Monday evening, to take proactive steps to disrupt the financial networks of both Iran and Hezbollah, reflecting the shift in American focus from pressure on individuals and entities associated with the party to push for institutional actions within Lebanon that limit its ability to use financial and banking channels to transfer funds and finance its activities.

The Lebanese ministerial delegation to Washington, headed by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, begins today with meetings with senior officials of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. Outside the agreed programme, a meeting was scheduled to take place on Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. between Salam and Finance Minister Yasin Jaber and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bicent.
