Two men left stranded after dramatic attempt to rescue dog from icy Essex lake

- Attempting to rescue the pet, a member of the public fell through thin ice and a passer-by entered to help amid bitterly cold weather, with emergency services warning ice can be thin and unstable.
- Ambulance crews treated both men, with one taken to Whipps Cross Hospital for assessment, and Ozgur Ontas said, `My family and I were walking around the lake, we live nearby, when suddenly we saw a man fall into the water and someone else helping him`.
- Essex County Fire and Rescue Service warned residents to stay out of water and call 999 emergency number while maintaining visual contact and reassurance from a place of safety.
- Parts of Essex are under a Met Office yellow weather warning for snow and ice until 11am on Monday , while the county remains subject to a UK Health Security Agency amber cold health alert.
