- On Friday, the Defense Ministry announced a successful combat training launch of a mobile, solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region, striking the Kura test site on the Kamchatka Peninsula.
- The military stated the launch aimed to confirm the 'tactical, technical and flight characteristics' of the system, which comprises part of Russia's land-based nuclear arsenal consisting of 321 ICBMs, or 56% of the country's strategic nuclear forces.
- While officials did not identify the specific system, Russian solid-fuel arsenals include Topol and Yars variants, which carry warheads ranging from 250 to 800 kilotons and have a range of 10,500 kilometers, capable of reaching the United States.
- The exercise occurred three days after CIA Director John Ratcliffe completed an unannounced visit to Moscow, where he met FSB chief Alexander Bortnikov to deliver a grave assessment of Russian military performance during the invasion of Ukraine.
