More than 100 children and 60 teachers were in shelter when the drone hit, and firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, officials said.

  • On Thursday, October 1, Russian air strikes injured one person in Kyiv and another in Odesa, Ukrainian emergency services reported, as drones and missiles targeted the capital and Black Sea port city.
  • The strikes mark the beginning of Russia's massive fall-winter campaign against Ukraine's energy infrastructure, with officials describing it as the heaviest combined assault on the power grid since last spring.
  • Presidential defence adviser Serhii Beskrestnov reported Russia's first use of jet-powered drones equipped with a 40-kilogram shaped-charge warhead designed to destroy high-voltage pylons and bridge structures.
  • A drone struck Kyiv's Pivdennyi Bridge, disrupting metro services, while another hit a school in the Solomianskyi district where students sheltered safely, Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed.
  • With strained air defences and a harsh winter approaching, Ukraine requires funding for its €5.4 billion energy resilience plan to protect critical infrastructure from escalating aerial assaults.
